A board-imposed deadline for rival bidders for Irish Continental Group to table their highest offer expired at noon today with no authoritative word on the outcome.
There is speculation that neither the management buyout team led by chief executive Eamonn Rothwell nor the rival Moonduster consortium of One51 and Doyle Group was willing to blink first, as it became clear that the ultimatum from the company’s independent directors was not enforceable.
