IMO secretary-general, Efthimios Mitropoulos spoke out today against public ignorance of the shipping industry. He attacked media reports such as those that recently appeared in newspapers suggesting that shipping caused more pollution than airlines. His remarks, made at the start of the Maritime Environmental Protection Committee’s 57th meeting in London, drew support from delegates.
