French port reforms to go ahead as strikes continue

The French Senate has passed the government’s port reform bill despite opposition from port authority personnel, who are staging widespread industrial action in an attempt to block provisions to transfer many of their number to the private sector, writes Andrew Spurrier.

The bill is expected to be presented to the National Assembly in mid-June and the government is hoping to have it adopted as law shortly afterwards.
