Spanish fast ferry operator Balearia is to launch a RoPax ferry service between Motril, near Granada, and Melilla in North Africa. The service, which starts in June, is expected to intensify the price war with rival operator Acciona Trasmediterranea over ferry services in the Strait of Gibraltar. Balearia strengthened its position last year by purchasing smaller operator Buquebus, helping to raise its turnover by 33% to almost €200m ($310m) in 2007, the company announced.
