Around 280 tourists were awaiting rescue from a passenger ship after it ran aground off the island of Poros, near Athens, the Greek authorities reported this afternoon. The 1959-built Giorgis was taking on water, and a rescue helicopter and three coastguard boats were at the scene after the ship was believed to have hit a reef three nautical miles offshore.
