The naming and launch of the 4,750m³ trailing suction hopper dredger VOLVOX OLYMPIA built for Van Oord ACZ Ltd., an English subsidiary of the Dutch Van Oord ACZ Group, took place on 8 February 2003 at the van der Giessen-de Noord yard in Krimpen aan den IJssel,.
The name giving ceremony was performed by Mrs M. Kuik-Knol, spouse of Mr. L.J. Kuik, Managing Area Director of the Van Oord ACZ Group.
IHC Holland and Van Oord ACZ signed the contract for the building of the Volvox Olympia in December 2000
