BEGINNINGS
Until William of Orange founded Devonport Dockyard in the late 17th Century, the Rame Peninsula was a remote community with tenuous links to Plymouth and the rest of Cornwall. As the Dockyard developed, so did opportunities to sell the agricultur
al and fishing produce of the area to the Navy Victuallers and the growing town of Devonport using small bum-boats.
