Margrete Askildsen told her father that she would love to go to sea — but he was opposed to that idea and put his foot down.
Growing up in the environs of Askoy and Bergen, a life on the ocean wave beckoned enticingly for the young Margrete.
Both her grandfathers were seafarers, one as a tug-boat captain; three uncles were marine electricians/engineers and one worked on offshore platforms.
