Jim Fitzpatrick has been given responsibility for shipping as a parliamentary undersecretary of state at the Department for Transport.
A Glaswegian by birth, Mr Fitzpatrick has been MP for Poplar and Canning Town in the East End of London since May 1997. 

Previous jobs include spells in charge of employment relations at the Department of Trade and Industry and a stint in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
