Deadline set for French ports on staff transfer

The French government has given port employers and unions until October 31 to reach agreement on how to bring port authority gantry operators and other terminal personnel under the control of private sector operators. 

In a nod to the leading port workers’ union, the ports and docks federation of the CGT union confederation, the government has avoided any reference to compulsory transfers of port authority personnel to the payrolls of private sector terminal operators.
