A high-speed vessel built by the Hobart shipbuilder, Incat, is helping in the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.

The 98-metre wave piercing catamaran, 'Swift', is off the coast of the US state of Louisiana.

It is operating with the USS Bataan, with helicopters from both ships flying medical evacuation, and search and rescue missions.

It left Incat's Hobart shipyard in 2003 and is now based at Ingleside in Texas.
