A completely new concept in ferry travel in Japan was introduced in September when the largest, most fuel-efficient diesel-powered fast ferry in the world, Natchan Rera, entered service for Higashi Nihon Ferry across the Tsugaru Strait between the islands of Hokkaida and Honshu, writes Sandra Speares.
