Danes interest in fast ferry

For almost a year, the British company "Euroferries" has been touted as the likely buyer of Rochester's fast ferry. Now, News 10NBC has learned that the most interest in the ship is coming from Denmark, not England.

The Danish company, Bornholms Traffiken sent two representatives all the way to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada to inspect the ferry while it was in dry dock last week. Bornholms Traffiken is not new to the story. The company, including its president Mads Kofod, toured the ferry last August. Bornholms Traffiken operates a ferry service between Denmark, Sweden and Germany.

According to our sources who are close to the ferry operation, no one from Euroferries came to Halifax to see the boat even though they were scheduled to do so.

"I think I mentioned previously that there were two very serious buyers," Mayor Bob Duffy said. "There clearly is a very strong interest and my position is very clear. Although we have certain commitments, we're at a point now the first entity with a check for the fast ferry we close this deal."

Mayor Duffy says the ferry is fully repaired and will sail from Halifax to Shelburne, Nova Scotia Friday. There it will continue to wait to be sold.

"I feel like I've been the bride at the altar many times before because we've been prepared only to have a delay," Duffy said. "I can't say that the process has lacked frustration but again we get to a point we can't do anything more than we've done so far."

The offer from Euroferries stands at $29.8 million.
