The passenger-only high-speed catamaran ferry Patricia Olivia II remained tied up at the Uruguayan port of Colonia yesterday after sustaining damage during berthing operations the day before. The gas turbine-powered vessel was about to complete its one-hour trip from Buenos Aires, when a steering malfunction caused it to smash bow-on hard against the quayside. According to witnesses, the impact made the terminal building shudder, while crew and passengers were thrown around the vessel.
