Red Sea ferry fleet cut by half

A strong safety regime has emerged in the Egyptian ferry sector, including halving the number of licensed vessels, since the sinking of the Al-Salam Boccaccio 98, according to local business news. Business Today newspaper says that as a result of investigations into the Al-Salam Boccaccio disaster – in which nearly 1,000 people lost their lives – the maximum ferry passenger load for ferries has been reduced from 2,700 to 1,200.
