South Korea’s ministry of maritime affairs and fisheries is facing the axe under a proposal to streamline ministries. The committee reporting to President-elect Lee Myung-bak has recommended closing down the ministry along with four others. Maritime functions will be clubbed under a new ministry that will also be dedicated to fisheries and agriculture under the committee’s recommendation, which will have to be approved by the Assembly.
