Hellenic held back by a lack of recognition

The Hellenic Register of Shipping’s ability to attract tonnage is hindered by two factors, according to managing director Kostas Chiou.

“The fact that that it is only recognised by the European Commission on a limited status because it does not fulfil the quantitative criteria [number and tonnage of ships] and it is not an IACS member, discourages the shipping industry from entrusting us with more tonnage,” he said.
