New York’s orange ferries will soon be going green. The NY City Council has voted unanimously to switch the Staten Island ferries, which make some 33,000 trips annually between Manhattan and the island, to ultra-low-sulphur fuel. This change, together with other planned environmental improvements, is expected to cost the city about $15.4m.
