Smaller yards spurning orders

Smaller Korean shipyards such as Nokbong and 21C Shipbuilding are cutting down on orders as escalating costs begin to bite. “We are carefully looking into the market situation,” officials at the two yards have told Fairplay, referring to ship price and the newbuilding market. They added that it has becoming increasingly difficult to provide for the continuous increase in thick steel plate price and the cost of marine engines.
