South Korea’s top three shipbuilders are now paying their workers wage increases that far exceed the rate of inflation, according to economic data published last week, writes Mike Grinter.
The annual salary for workers at Samsung Heavy Industries, Hyundai Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering has gone up by an average of 20% from last year, leaving most workers earning more than Won70m ($70,000) this year.
